Touch down Lisbon

Touch down Lisbon. What a wonderful day it has become. I almost did not believe anymore, that I would actually make it to Portugal. 48 hours before my initial takeoff from Berlin Tegel, I was delayed another time. In fact, my flight was cancelled without any further notification. Only because I wanted to check in, did I realise that I am not going anywhere? Well, at least not the day I thought I would have. But KLM was amazing to simply put me on the next available flight to Lisbon. I flew with Airfrance and it was just fine to get here. Just a day later, as planned and still plenty of time before making my way up north to Porto, the place I start my Camino Portugues.
I have to say, I am in love with this town, the people, the country, just everything. I cannot find a thing that would say; „this or that I don’t like. There simply is nothing and that way I can enjoy moment by moment, just anything, as it unfolds. The streets are quite empty and one can see, that Corona is throwing its vale over the city. And still, it is the people of that town, that walk around like glowing peakon of love. Most of them or at least, what I can see and notice are careful, wearing masks and keeping distance. None seems to make a big fuss about it and the obvious signs all around town, encouraging people to be present and keeping distance are anything but an overburdening weight on this beautiful city. Usually, Lisbon is being swarmed by visitors at this time of the year but it can do also quite nicely without them. Quite funny me saying that, as I am here, like any tourist, even though I am justing travelling through on my way to Port. But anyway, 2 – 3 days will be wonderful here, walking the empty streets, sitting in parks or drinking a glass of wine in some of the almost empty wineries and bars.

That which gets in the way – Is the way
You see, this keeps happening to me, just as much as a hurtful foot or an aching hip. Even my mind wanted to not accept this at first and I did realise that, noticed the rejection of something beautiful just as much as I would probably reject some pain at first. Today...

When Play brings real emotions to the surface
Suddenly there was real emotion and not a play of a theatre piece. Laughing, crying, running tears and a beating heart, that was making somersaults for being free. Yes, I am back again writing some new lines of text for you to read. Or am I just writing this stuff for...

My foot is broken – so, what now
Limping and making carefully one step at a time, I made it to a place called Montedor. I stepped into a Cafe which was named after the town, ordered a cafe and a toast with ham and cheese and sat down outside."My foot is broken and what now?" That's what I asked...

Let’s just mumble around a bit and walk the way
Ohh, so my morning started with Bob Marley and an amazing walk along the Atlantic coastline. I thought that I would embark on a 24K walk, If I had known yesterday, what I know now, that I would be so exhausted and physically done - I would have written my next blog...

When you are here but you never see Porto
I feel like dropping into the pilgrim. I sort stop exploring places, I am staying at, and instead of that, come down to very simple tasks, like cooking and enjoying a glass of wine in the kitchen. This morning it was again time to say goodbye to Lisbon. Only this...

Meeting friends on two and four legs
My time in Praia Baleal was wonderful. So much beach-time, so much laughter with my two-legged friends and so much love and awareness with my four-legged friend Pingu. I am back in Lisbon, sitting again at the "Home Lisbon Hostel" right in the centre of town and...

Sunset in Praia Baleal
The sun got lower and lower and bathed the air, the sea, the houses and rocks in its amazing colours. My bus left this morning from Lisbon to Peniche. A friend of mine, I worked with at the ImpacTrip Project in Lisbon invited me to join her at her grandparent's place....

Off to Cascais – An unintentional practice of non-doing
It is actually quite funny to write about a trip to the beach when visiting a beach is usually quite eventless.Temperatures start to pick up in Lisbon. More and more people are making their ways to the beaches of which you can find many here. So, what did I do today?...

I love Portugal
It has been a gorgeous day with a lot of sunshine. I walked up and down, got lost and found my way again. The second day in Lisbon and I realise - I love Portugal. I have slept like a baby, and even though my windows have been open, the city noise was hardly...

The yearning for some Camino boots
Only a few more days and I will be on my way to Portugal, the land of the most friendly and beautiful people I have so far experienced in my life.Only a few more days and I will be on my way to Portugal, the land of the most friendly and beautiful people I have so far...
How did you manage to get into portugal if their borders are not open until July 1st? Bom caminho.
Hi David, Portugal is open. In fact, the country was never closed but airlines kept cancelling flights to Lisbon. The 1st. of July applies to the borders of Spain but even here it might be possible to enter prior that date.
Bom Caminho.
